1. To define a new service resource to monitor, select File / New Resource / Service from the file menu. This will open the service resource window.
  2. Define the machine name you wish to monitor the service on, and pick the administrator password from the drop down list. If you have not yet defined a password resource for the machine, please see the password manager documentation.
  3. Click on the "..." button to enumerate the service list from the server. Pick the service you wish to monitor.
  4. Once you have selected a service, click on "OK" to close the window and return to the service configuration.
  5. Immediately below the "Service List" enumeration list is a check box to set whether or not Overseer attempts to restart the service should it go down.
  6. On the bottom of the service resource window is a "Test" button. This will cause Overseer to try contacting the resource to verify that it was defined properly and that it can be reached.
  7. Click on the "General" icon on the right hand side to bring up additional configuration options for the new service resource.
  8. In this section, you can define the name of the resource (or how the Overseer console will display it as), which group it resides in, and any comments that you might specify for it.
  9. Click on the "Monitoring"icon on the right hand side to bring up additional configuration options for the service resource.
  10. Within the monitoring section, you can define your how often the resource is checked, when you want to be notified, how often you want to be notified, and to define a maximum time frame for which you want to be notified. There is also an option here to tell Overseer to notify you if the resource recovers.
  11. Click on the "Notifications" icon on the right hand side to bring up additional configuration options for the service resource.
  12. The "Notifications" section allows you to enable or disable resources which should be alerted should the resource go down.
